Do your thing. Do it for cancer.
You choose it, we’ll support it.
Simply pick a fundraising idea, and let us know what it is that you want to do. We’ll provide you with the support you need to make it a success.
To get started, take a look at the great fundraising ideas below, or simply create your own.
Different people are interested in different things. Sounds obvious, we know. But it got us thinking: if everyone’s different, why should the way they raise funds for cancer be the same?
Maybe you’ve always wanted to challenge yourself to an open-water ocean swim. Or perhaps you'd rather cook the perfect ocean trout fusion dish for friends and family. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to rock a mohawk. Or maybe you wanted to run a vintage clothing stall at the local markets.
Whatever it is that you want to do, we want you to do it for cancer.
Tips to help you get started
Planning a fundraiser can be fun and easy. With these practical tips, you can ensure that your fundraiser runs smoothly and is a success.
When it comes to running a fundraiser, it’s a case of “the more, the merrier.” Your friends can be a major source of help, so get them involved in organising your fundraiser.
Investigate suitable venues (if you need one). Consider things such as parking, wet-weather, council permits, catering requirements and audio-visual equipment. And remember to book well in advance.
It’s a basic rule of fundraising – raise more money than you spend. Think about your costs and try to limit them by asking for venues, prizes and services to be donated.
When it comes to drumming up support for your fundraiser, start by using your own existing networks of friends, workmates and recreational clubs. Local press and social media sites such as Facebook can be a huge help. For more information, watch our video on promoting your fundraiser.
There are a few important things that you need to consider before going public with your fundraiser;
- Make sure you've received your Authority to Fundraise from Cancer Council NSW. If you’re planning on using our name or logo (for example, on your publicity material), please contact us first.
- Check insurance requirements and make sure you have any necessary Council (or other) approvals.
- Consider for any potential risks, such as injury, financial loss, and image/reputation. Think about what you can do to reduce these risks. And call us on 1300 65 65 85 if you need advice.
